Laureate Architecture Scholars Program
Full Scholarships Available
For Graduate Study at
NewSchool of Architecture & Design
Following the successful Laureate Global Architecture and Design Summit, NewSchool of Architecture and Design announces the establishment of the Laureate Architecture Scholars Program. The Program offers two (2) full tuition scholarships for graduate study at NewSchool in San Diego during 2010-2011.
Eligibility
1. Students from Laureate Network Universities, who have completed the equivalent of the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, or an undergraduate degree in a related field, are eligible to apply for the Scholars Program.
2. Students are expected to enroll in the Master’s of Architecture degree at NewSchool of Architecture & Design (NewSchool) in San Diego during the 2010-2011 academic year.
3. Students must present a grade point average equivalent to a minimum 3. 5 on a 4.0 scale from the undergraduate coursework to be eligible to apply for the Program.
4. Students must be eligible to study in the U.S., and present documentation to verify funds to cover living expenses for one year.
5. Students must present a TOEFL score of 550 or above (paper-based) or 213 or above (computer-based, or a score of 79-80 on the Internet-based test). This requirement is waived for applicants with English as their primary language.
Award
- The Scholars Program award will cover all tuition and fees for two years of graduate study at NewSchool. The approximate value of this award is $44,000. There will be two awards made for the 2010-2011 year.
- Students must enroll in a full time course load and remain in good academic standing during their degree program.
- Students must adhere to the policies and procedures of NewSchool of Architecture and Design.
Application
- Completed application for Admission to NewSchool.
- Certified translations of transcripts with US equivalencies.
- Portfolio containing a cross-section of student's best recent work. It should include ten images that show both process and final project outcomes across a full range of media: freehand drawing, mechanical drawing, physical model making, digital graphics, digital 2-D drawing and digital 3-D drawing. All pieces should be presented on 11"x 17" (28cm x 43cm), single side only.
- A personal essay, one page maximum, describing the student’s purposes in graduate study at NewSchool
- Two letters of recommendation from instructors who know the student’s work well.
- The endorsement from the administration of the Laureate Network institution.
Selection Committee
Applications will be screened by a committee of NSAD faculty and Advisory Board members. Recommendations from the Committee will be approved by the NSAD President and confirmed by the NSAD Board of Directors.
Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted to the Office of Admissions by June 25, 2010. Awards will be announced by July 9, 2010.
